The Kazakhstan Automobile Union (KAU / КАО) reports 19,104 new passenger and commercial vehicles at official dealers in August 2026, +6.3% versus August 2025. January–August: 146,372 (+2.3%).
August brand print (KAU via el.kz / Bairak): Hyundai 3,604, Chevrolet 2,764, Changan 2,217 (+103.2% y/y, third place), Kia 1,556, Chery 1,129 (+34.4%). Also in the top ten: Toyota 1,121, Haval 897, Jetour 865, Geely 815, BYD 620 (+41.6%). Eight-month BYD (EV + hybrid) 3,208 (+133.3%). Eight-month Chery 10,815 (+16.4%); Changan 14,144.
This is official-dealer retail inside Kazakhstan, not China FOB and not grey import. Chevrolet Cobalt remained the single most-sold nameplate in the August notes.
Desk takeaway: Chinese brands are now inside the KAU top ten, but Hyundai/Chevrolet still hold the volume floor. Quote official KZ retail and Ningbo CBU as different cars.
